Little Men

I'm having some mild writer's block. Stay tuned, I'll get it together eventually.

So, I finished reading "Little Men," Louisa May Alcott's sequel to her instant classic "Little Women" (perhaps my favorite post.) As much as I liked Mr Bhaer, I just can't get over wishing that Jo and Laurie ended up together. Does anyone else feel this way? Can anyone read those books and not think of Winona Rider and Christian Bale?

(On that note, does anyone take a break from vampire books to read old timey classics?)

This leads me to an interesting topic. Are there famous literary or television best friends you would have like to have ended up together? My other vote is for Veronica and Wallace from that hit show V. Mars.

Thanks for letting me get those off my chest.

I feel the same way, even before the movie. In a way it's good that she is with Bhaer in the end though because I think that's a lot closer to real life than everything working out with Laurie. Have you read "The Inheritance" by Alcott? That one is definitely more of a fairy tale ending and the movie is fun too. The guy is Greg from Dharma and Greg and I think he plays on some crime show now.

Veronica and WALLACE? I cannot comprehend this.

I actually LOVE that professor and could see myself marrying someone a lot like him. I think in the book it's evident a lot more why Jo/Laurie would have been a horrible match, less so in the movie. Laurie is cast more as mischievous and easygoing in the film version (and attractive), but, in the original novel, he and Jo are both portrayed as pretty volatile individuals - rarely a great match, in terms of making things work in the long run.

Katie--you're right! I'd forgotten that aspect of the Laurie/Jo relationship. And that the movie was kinder to Laurie than the book.

Brittney--I'm on kind of an Alcott kick lately. "Jo's Boys" is next, but I'll add "The Inheritance" to my queue as well.

Becki--I know, I know. I guess I just have a thing for best friends. I want them to be in love.

Speaking of vampire books, I'm reading one right now that is really good (and not dorky fiction/fantasy either--I know that's what you're thinking). My parents both recommended it to me, so that ought to count for something. Its called "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova. Once you've gone through all the classic literature you should pick it up.

Oh boy Matt. I kind of hate vampires, but I requested this book at the library. Discussion forthcoming...

Wowza. Who knew Veronica and Wallace would be the talk of this blog?

I guess I should clarify that I didn't want them to be together FOREVER, I just LOVE Veronica, and I LOVE Wallace, and with people I enjoy so much, I just want them to be with other people whom I enjoy so much.

I know what you mean about Christian Bale and Winnona Rider, I wanted that too, but in the books she's better with Bhaer.

I must say I LOVE Little Men and Jo's Boys. Both made me cry like nothing else when I read them! So cute! Have you been out to Alcott's house in Concord? I haven't and it's on my list of things to do still!

I wouldn't have minded if V and Wallace got together, but Piz and V are a better match.

Definitely, maybe, probaby related posts:
