Rest from your Labors

Connecticut has become my 3-day weekend home away from home. In my opinion, every one needs a little Connecticut in their lives; or rather, access to a beautiful and relaxing coast-view home with some of their besties.

Some of the photos posted below are exceptionally random; but I've posted them for your viewing pleasure alone. Thanks to the wonderful Peggy whose camera took all said photos. I couldn't have done it withoutcha Peg.

How could we not take model shots in the "backyard"? Some are naturals (Ju, Peg), some are not (a la me). That's the way the cookie crumbles. Please notice how beautiful all my friends are during this post. I'm a lucky girl.

Just wanted to point out that this Connect Four board may have been the best $12 I ever spent. It's been all over New England!

Saturday night we frequented the local Mexican Cantina. I'm not even sure how or why these photos ended up being taken, but it seemed so funny at the time.

We attended church on Sunday at the Yale Singles Branch. Always a treat, because the mix of people in that branch is well... kind of crazy. To keep myself focused, I created a Testimony Bingo board and managed to cross out a few typical testimony phrases here and there. Sadly (or un-sadly?), the testimonies weren't terribly cliched, so it didn't look like we'd get a single Bingo. We needed someone to cry to get a diagonal cross. Special shout-out to the last girl who in the very last moment cried. BINGO.

Peggy, Julie and I volunteered to make Sunday lunch--we went with the very tricky and time intensive taco salad. We ate outside--the weather couldn't have been more perfect, and we lazed around the majority of the afternoon. Awesome.

After the laze of a Sunday afternoon had passed, the karaoke machine turned on and the fun didn't stop. I have no idea what Brian and I are singing along with, but we're sure into it huh? We chose a classic Bryan Adams, "Everything I Do, I Do it For You", for Mike to sing. Like a champ, Mike mimicked Adams tone quality and sound. I'm surprised he had a voice left after the wildness that was his number. Julie and I followed Mike with "Total Eclipse of the Heart"--we sang to Cyrus and totally melted his heart. By the end of the song, we were all in love.

We decided to take a true rest from our labors on Monday at the lake. Who knew we had such professional wakeboarders/skiers/tubers in our group? I'm pretty sure Tim got the money shot to get Cyrus like professionally sponsored. The day was gorgeous and yes friends, I actually swam in the lake. Not for very long mind you (as I almost died in a white squall once as I'm a terrible swimmer), but long enough to do some mermaid dives and general tomfoolery.

This is me looking disgustingly mad. I was totally sitting next to Cyrus and Julie weasled her way in between us. Then I was a mad cartoon. I got over it in time to make a cheesy of all cheesy waves as we were docking.

After lunch, we somehow engaged in a pretty stupid jumping game right in front of the entrance. In fact, a crowd semi-gathered to watch what was going on. Mike* was the winner, asterisk because he was wearing real shoes. I think Brian got the furthest in flops.

We got home, cleaned up, straightened up, listened to Ju rock out on the guitar and time wasted. The traffic heading back to Boston on holidays is notorious, so we weren't in any hurry to get on the road. We reminisced the trip; stating our favorite parts and giving each other mock awards. The award giving lasted the better part of an hour--some awards included: Best Wet Hair (Julie), Best Guy Thigh (Tim), Best Breakout Live Performance (Mike for "Learn of Me" and "Everything I Do"), Best Use of Poems (Nat), Most Improved (Cyrus), and the list and the accompanied clapping went on and on.

When we were finally ready to hit the road, we traveled one stop up the freeway to the Texas Roadhouse(!). Another piece of the time wasting plan. Can you tell at this point how tired and spent we are?

Needless to say, the Connecticut Adventure was a success. Photos are worth more than words. Always. May the rest from your labors have been as fun as mine.

Did you notice anything different about the photos on this blog? (Besides the more solid photo layout and placement) Instead of opening the forum and making you guess, I'll just tell you--before we left for the CTA, I made a trip goal not to take any photos with an open mouth. Aren't you proud of me?

fantastic post nat! but i have to disagree, you were by far the most modelesque person around- what with the perfect ariel impression and all!

also, don't forget about the award for "most chuch norris look alike" which undeniably goes to brian. i think we could also give an award for "most awkward kareoke number" which would go to brian and steve for "man, i feel like a woman".

looking forward to the next G_A!
