Normally I just lurk on strangers' blogs, but I have such strong feelings about covers, I have to comment (and plus I'm not a complete stranger -- I'm Kylee's friend -- I think I met you at the door once -- I had my 4 year-old in tow -- probably the only guy with a kid to ever come visit). I could on and on about bad covers. I can never forgive Puff Daddy for destroying "Every Breath You Take"... I have to punch a pillow whenever I hear it. And Landslide is a unique song because it's been covered twice -- one amazing (Smashing Pumpkins) and one so sub-par that I cannot summon the verbage to denigrate it enough (Dixie Chicks). And what really bugs is when some new-fangle band covers a CLASSIC and unschooled teens think the new-fangle band wrote the tune. Unbelievable. Like when Linkin Park redid Behind Blue Eyes and when you tried to tell some 14 year-old the Who did the song 25 years earlier and 25 times better, they just give the "Wha-?" look. Anyhoo, to end on a positive note -- best covers I know of: Cake's The Guitar Man and Fountain of Wayne's ...Baby One More Time. Sheer inspiration. I probably spend too much time thinking about covers.
Shabba--Yes, I remember you. And you're right, we don't get many kids 'round these parts. Lurking is always acceptable. Covers are funny things. Umbrella just strikes me as odd because it's so currently NEW to already be covering.
In another Mandy Moore vein, she does a FANTASTIC cover of "Have a Little Faith in Me" that I'm 3-parts obsessed with.

how dare you judge me for liking "big girls don't cry"...

I've never heard either version - and I don't much like the Rhianna version so hmmm you're obsessed with it?
Stay tuned for a blog soon about female singers and their amazingness. I do like how Mandy seemed so in to the emotion of the song.
